This painting is representative of works that depict places of significance to me from my childhood in Cornwall. The small cove, known to locals as Green Bay, from which the painting looks out, is nestled next to Porthcurno beach. It’s usually hidden from sight, until low tides make it accessible to the curious visitor. The scene looks towards the headland where the legendary Logan Rock rests on its shaky podium. The sea in this part of the coastline is normally deep and known for its strong currents and big waves, but on days like the one pictured, it is calm and shallow, with gently waves stretching across the width of the entire bay. Scenes such as this evoke happy memories and inspire me to paint. I have mostly used brushes on this painting, using bold strokes to create the clouds, which are particularly dramatic towards the end of summer. The painting is continued onto the sides of the canvas and two coats of varnish have been applied for UV protection.
