Jo Ellis

I was born in Hong Kong and moved to the United Kingdom in 1970. I have been travelling around the world ever since, living in New Zealand, Sudan, Tanzania, Pakistan, South Korea, Egypt and Bosnia & Herzegovina. I am now living in London with my family.

I studied traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy in Hong Kong and Korea. I then studied art & design in London.

My work ranges from abstract expressionist to the quirky townscapes, using different mediums on canvas and paper. Mixing both eastern and western techniques and styles often results in unusual interpretation of familiar subjects.

I have held solo exhibitions in Seoul, Cairo, Alexandria, Sarajevo, Florida and New York and also exhibited in London at The Mall Gallery, Alexander Llewellyn Gallery, Chelsea Old Town Hall, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Banqueting House, Orleans House Gallery,The Stable Gallery, Richmond Town Hall and Kingston Museum. I am now regularly showing my works at Contemporary Art Fair in Newbury, Windsor and Surrey.
