I am a contemporary artist working in oil on hand-dyed fabrics such as linen and cotton.
My distinctive personal style using batik and oil aims to convey texture and earthiness, trying to capture the ordered chaos and random patterns in nature.
My technique involves building up layers with line drawing, batik, hand-dying and oil which has resulted in a unique and personal interpretation. The accidental nature of batik, cracking wax to create veins of colour, helps me achieve the textured surfaces and earthy hues that I love.
Inspiration comes from the peaceful solitude that can be found in the barren Irish landscape, but also from walking the country lanes of rural Armagh where I grew up amid the rolling drumlins, ancient hedgerows, and derelict farms.
